DIGITAL MARKETING
Have You Ever Been Rejected? (My Story)
Chris Chan, Digital Marketing Consultant

Being rejected sucks.
Rejected from a job, rejected from relationships, rejected by friends.
Worst of all rejected by yourself.
Perhaps I should provide a bit of context.
As a budding digital marketer and aspiring digital marketer graduating from college this year I’ve begun the relentless pursuit of finding a job.
That’s why I decided to pursue a part-time, or possibly even full-time, position as a freelance content writer. I chose to apply for a competitive position at Talentopia as an academic content writer.
Hopefully, my college education prepared me for it, right?
At least that’s what I thought it would do.
It’s a funny thing, when writing is your passion but you also want to try to make a career out of it. The very thing that you enjoy starts to become the bane of your existence, you start to doubt yourself and stiffen up.
Before you know it, things that used to come easy to you are lost and you feel stuck, powerless, without a place for being.
Yup, that’s the way being rejected from a single job can make you feel.
It hasn’t even been 5 minutes since I submitted the 1-hour long applicant screening assessment and boom I received the standard-issue “we regret to inform you…”
I don’t even want to do anything anymore. I don’t want to cry, I don’t want to try to look for another job, there’s something crushing about being rejected, something deeply impersonal about not being considered as a full human being in your endeavors.
I really thought that I was a good writer. I really thought that if I just tried hard enough that I would be able to get that job.
For me, this goes back to before job hunting. Rejection goes back to my innocent attempts at building friendships and relationships, rejection goes back to not being accepted to colleges of my choice, even when my grades and performance clearly indicated otherwise.
It has been a true struggle.
